AV Lab
AV Lab is a brand new facility, owned by the department “Electronics and Informatics” (ETRO) of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). AV lab is a service provider of audio-visual content and is used for research or commercial applications. It is situated in Building Ke (VUB campus Etterbeek), covering a total surface area of 60 sq. meters. The facility is composed of 4 rooms: A 4m x 4m control room, a 6.67m x 4m x 2.67m recording room and two storage rooms. The control room is equipped with a 48 channel analog recording console, a PRO-TOOLS HD 1 audio recording system, outboard equipment and a variety of microphones. The video acquisition system that is foreseen to be installed will be capable of recording 4 SD-SDI (standard definition) and 2 HD-SDI (high definition) uncompressed streams simultaneously. Integration with the audio system will eventually allow multi channel audio-visual in-synchrony capture of 6 video and 24 audio channels. The control room is acoustically treated and its temperature is controlled with air conditioning. The recording room is a box-in-box construction (double walls, floating ceiling, double doors, double windows), allowing produced sound pressure levels up to 100 dB-A without affecting the noise floor of nearby offices. A low-noise HVAC system is controlling the temperature and humidity. The room acoustics is adjustable through broad-band acoustic panels. An installed truss allows ringing of loudspeakers, video cameras and lighting units. We are currently investigating the possibility of creating a VZW for the activities of AV Lab.
